Mya Loves Story

Posted by myalove3 in Uncategorized

Mya was attacked on Sunday morning July 13th 2014 I started a new job on driving from LA to Vegas so on the day this happened I did not get in till1:00am Monday morning the new bus in the air condition went down. When I got in she told me that Mya got out of the back yard through a hole in the fence which I was going to fix that day, my day off so she put her in the yard with the lead attached to a pole her harness on she slipped out of it. The next thing she knows the door bell is ringing and Mya is just sitting there it took her a minute to realize she was hurt and the neighborhood was going crazy. The neighbor across the street beat the dogs off of Mya and put her on the front steps ran to get his gun because the dogs (yes Rottweilers ) were attacking others six squad cars show up and animal services the dogs ended up being shot killed and run over (and no as of yet I can’t find out who they belonged to) or even if they had tags. Meanwhile she gets Mya to 4 different vets when finally someone would take her she did not lose consciousness even walked but sounded like a baby crying.

At the only vet who would take her soon after the attack. This is still hard to look at.

I went to see Mya the next day and the Vet said her leg was too badly injured and had to be amputated. If not then she should be euthanized because she had no muscle, bone or nerve.
He said it would be starting $2500 I was at a complete lost as to were I was going to get the money so when I got home I jumped on the web and started looking for any help. I found The Sam Simon Foundation Non profit started by Sam Simon, producer of “The Simpsons,” “Cheers,” and “The Drew Carey Show,” among other seriesTuesday morning July 15th I faxed everything I could lay my hands on that they needed to them. When I went to vist Mya that night I was on my way out when Hannah Lieberman Mobile Clinic Director of The Sam Simon Foundation called the vet told them they would do the surgery for free. She spoke to me and said I needed to be in LA by 7:15 am tomorrow. Because Mya was going to get the surgery done the vet allowed me to take Mya that night and waved the balance due so I could get her there. I ran my car down getting they were in a Ralph’s parking lot on Pico Blvd.

Thank God for Sam Simon, Hanna every one
He died a year later March 8, 2015

There were several people there, inside there were several cages around the sides with the surgery table at the back. Also meet a lady who had a golden retriever named Mida she rescued this month that had cancer in the right back leg it was only getting worse so she was also there for amputation. All the staff were very nice and empathic answered all my questions looked at the X-rays to confer she need the amputation. They took her around10:30am and explained she would be ready for pick up at 4:30pm and if you are not there they will take the animal to the shelter. I just hung around went to Ralph’s and walked around not much to see. By 4:00pm some one came to my car and updated me said Mya just finished up and they sutured her back, said they never saw a leg this bad and that Mya was still standing said she should be ready to be released by5:30pm. The golden retriever was done took 2 people to put her in the car we all hope she had some to help her when she got home, said or good byes and good luck! At 5:30pm they brought Mya out gave me the Meds with instructions explained everything also made 2 appointment to return (different locations) to remove her sutures and staples follow up visits. I tried everything to get this car home smoking was pushed twice by police off the freeway Mya was awake the whole time I was so tired I truly forgot I had AAA anyway ended up waiting 2 hours because they could not find anyone who would tow to Moreno Valley 50 miles I was off the 60 east where Fryes is and when the guy got there HE tried not to go but between your Mattie me and a pitiful looking puppy we finally convinced him to take us. We did not get in till 2:30-3:00amMya got up and walked into the kitchen!

1st 2weeks home she would not eat trying to recover. I would not leave her side. Still a lot of puncture wounds the tube is for the wound to seep she finds it hard to sleep keeps repositioning herself.

Not happy in the crate, but not fighting it.

She has been standing and walking not really eating it could just be her throat is sore from the tube when she was put to sleep so I have to crush up her pills and put them in her meat.

Looked out the window today got some sun her squirrel watched over her to day walked to the mailbox ( I wonder if she remembers everything:@(

The recovery was not easy for me to watch her but she did and HAS recovered!

So if this helps one concerned pet parent know that our companions are stronger than we think!
